Commercial Interior and Exterior Planting for One West Point, North Acton

Project Summary

At One West Point, City & Docklands’ flagship residential development in Acton, West London, greenery plays an important role in softening the scale and energy of a highly urban setting.

Working with the owner and City & Docklands design team, Light Water Plants was appointed to enhance receptions, lounges, lobby areas, roof terraces, the gym and co-working spaces through live interior planting, exterior horticulture and bespoke artificial planting.

The ongoing programme combines an £80,000 annual live interior plant rental and exterior grounds maintenance contract with £60,000 of artificial planting projects, creating a consistent, high-end landscape across the development.

About the Client

One West Point is City & Docklands’ flagship residential development in North Acton, West London. Its shared internal and external spaces are an important part of the resident and visitor experience.

The planted areas include:

Receptions
Lounges and lobby areas
Roof terraces and communal gardens
Gym
Co-working and event spaces
Balconies across the wider site

Together, these spaces required a coordinated interior, exterior and artificial planting service capable of maintaining a premium appearance throughout the year.

The Brief

The client wanted to use plants and greenery to enhance key public areas throughout the development. The scheme needed to:

Introduce substantial green spaces within a highly urban residential setting.
Create lush, full interior clusters using plants of different species, forms and heights.
Enhance arrival, social, wellness and working areas for residents and visitors.
Maintain a consistent, high-end appearance through long-term horticultural care, using live and artificial planting where each would perform most effectively.

The scale of the brief called for more than a one-off installation. It required an ongoing horticultural partnership covering live interior planting, exterior gardens and grounds, and bespoke artificial projects.

A Collaborative Design Process

Working with the owner and City & Docklands design team, Light Water Plants considered how planting could strengthen the character and purpose of each public space.

For the interiors, the design direction centred on generous clusters rather than isolated plants. Different heights, leaf shapes and shades of green were combined to create a layered, abundant appearance within receptions, lounges, lobby areas, the gym and co-working spaces.

The design process considered:

The scale, function and visual identity of each communal area.
Plant heights, forms and foliage combinations within each cluster.
The balance between live and artificial planting.
Planter materials, finishes and proportions.
Long-term access and maintenance requirements.

For the exterior areas, Light Water Plants became the principal maintenance company following completion of the original contractor development works, taking responsibility for the established landscape across the site.

Our Interior Planting Solution

Hundreds of live indoor plants are rented and maintained across One West Point’s communal and event spaces. The planting is arranged in full, layered groupings designed to bring softness, energy and natural variation to the contemporary interiors.

The interior planting palette included:

Exterior and Artificial Planting

The external horticultural palette is designed to bring structure, movement and seasonal interest to the communal gardens, roof terraces and balconies. It includes silver birch and olive trees, more than 20 ornamental grass species, ferns, hebes, Verbena bonariensis, Pittosporum and Prunus varieties, Liriope muscari and Hedera helix.

Alongside the live planting, Light Water Plants has delivered several bespoke indoor and outdoor artificial planting projects with a combined value of £60,000. These installations were designed to achieve a convincing, high-end finish and to integrate naturally with the wider planting scheme.

Built Around Long-Term Plant Health

The One West Point relationship is supported by annual contracts covering both the interior and exterior planting scopes.

The interior plants are visited and maintained once every week. During the summer months, the exterior team is on site up to three times a week to meet the greater seasonal demands of the gardens, terraces and balconies.

This responsive maintenance programme keeps the planting healthy and presentation-ready while protecting the long-term quality of the client’s investment.

A Site-Wide Horticultural Service

Light Water Plants now looks after the horticultural requirements across the entire development, from live interior rental plants and artificial installations to communal gardens, roof terraces and balconies.

Managing the different scopes as one coordinated service gives City & Docklands a consistent standard across every resident-facing environment and a single specialist partner for the site’s ongoing planting needs.

The completed and continually maintained scheme brings extensive greenery into a highly urban development, ensuring that green space remains central to the resident and visitor experience.
